Waco MPO Adopts 2050 Transportation Roadmap

The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has officially adopted its 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan, a comprehensive roadmap designed to coordinate long-term transportation activities throughout McLennan County. According to the City of Waco, the MPO serves as the primary federal mechanism for ensuring cooperative and data-driven infrastructure investment. Beyond long-range strategy, the organization is currently executing the 'Six to Fix' initiative, a series of 16-month demonstration projects testing low-cost, innovative safety enhancements at six high-impact intersections throughout the region. These tactical improvements, ranging from pedestrian accessibility upgrades to traffic flow optimizations, aim to gather community feedback and actionable data to shape the region’s broader safety action plan through 2027.
